On June 17, 2020, a routine patrol by Deputy Bruner led to the discovery of a stolen vehicleโa dark green Nissan reported missing from Georgiaโtraveling down Highway 326. When Deputy Bruner attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver, identified as Timothy Vaughn, refused to pull over, prompting a high-speed chase. Multiple law enforcement units, including Air-One, joined the pursuit.
The situation escalated until Deputy Rodriguez executed a P.I.T. maneuver, successfully bringing the chase to an end. As the vehicle came to a stop, Vaughn exited the driverโs side, while another occupant, Joshua Scott, emerged from the back. Additionally, three juveniles who had been in the vehicle pleaded with Vaughn to stop before exiting.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a stash of illegal substances, including methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana, found both inside the vehicle and in Scott’s wallet. Vaughn faced serious charges, including fleeing and eluding law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, grand theft, and possession of a controlled substance. Scott was also arrested, facing charges for possession of marijuana and drug equipment. Both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail as the investigation concluded. This incident highlights the persistent efforts of law enforcement to crack down on car theft and drug offenses.
